As Penn State professor William Rothwell scary show in front to Exit Right: A Guided Tour of Succession Planning Family Business Together, more than 40% of those who held operations comprising 80% of the North American economy will retire in 2007. It makes me wonder, what will happen to all those businesses? Although it is a noble movement, through the business to the next generation is more often than not, unsuccessful. In fact, statistics show that only one-third of all family businesses successfully transferred to the next generation and only 13% is transferred to the third generation.
